Welcome at Martian Prince.
Yes, it's true, we are only a small production company, nevertheless, quality and excellence in film is what we want to achieve with our creations. We're specialised in the production of short subjects, the jewels of experimental cinematic art. Some of the most interesting, exciting and experimental stories can best be told in a shorter, more compacter form, one that is far more flexible than its feature film counterpart.
“It should be a good story — speak about a time and place that is permanent. It should capture something wonderful with some great characters, whether it's set in the past or in the future.”
— Ismail Merchant
It was the late Ismail Merchant who professed the mighty words that a story needed something more than mediocrity; there should be an enchantment in it, something to set it apart from the rest of the pack. We strongly believe that he was right, everything should begin with a good and solid story, one that enchants us, captivates our souls and enriches culture. If it doesn't capture that "something wonderful," why make the film?
We strive to put that enchantment, that "something wonderful" into all our stories, whether said story is about a quest that leads to self-discovery, the depression that haunts a character, a passionate love affair, or something completely different. At Martian Prince we believe that the only satisfaction for a filmmaker can be found in producing motion picture excellence.
As of May 2009, we are planning the production of the short subject Sorrow/Misery and the short-form television adaption The Necessity of Locker Rooms. Overkempe Studios, our predecessor and current distribution label, produced its first finished short subject in the form of the low-budget and somewhat exploratory The Unnamable, hyphenated by Remy L. Overkempe and released in March 2008. Martian Prince's first production, an experimental short subject called The Woods, was released on June 4th, 2009.
